Gunster is a three-time Diversity Scorecard Honoree (Am Law Top Firms for Diversity), and is recognized as one of the Best Large Companies to Work for in Florida - for all large companies in the state, not just law firms (Florida Trend magazine, 2009 - 2023). Gunster has also ranked nationally on Law360.com's list of the Top 100 Firms with the Largest Percentage of Female Partners - #40 on the Top 100 List. Gunster is actively involved with recruiting talented, diverse attorneys. Through Gunster’s participation at diversity recruitment fairs and in its support of diversity organizations at Florida law schools, it seeks to attract attorneys who have excellent academic credentials, interpersonal skills, and an eagerness to take on new responsibilities. Our recruiting efforts include: Conducting mock interviews and interview workshops for diverse law students; Mentoring local law students through Gunster's innovative, annual Leadership Training Academy; and Participating in minority student job fairs. DIVERSITY STATEMENT: Gunster is committed to fostering workplace diversity. Its attorneys believe that diversity is a necessary element to providing exceptional client service. Gunster makes it a priority to provide equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, covered veteran status, or any other factor prohibited by law. Gunster’s workplace diversity commitment is supported by its recruiting and training efforts, its EEO Policy, and its community activities promoting diversity. LAWYER DIVERSITY: As of April 1, 2023, Gunster has over 40 diverse attorneys working in various practice groups. These attorneys comprise more than 15% of all our lawyers. GENDER DIVERSITY: Firmwide, Gunster has 94 women lawyers – more than 33% of all of our lawyers. These professionals include 53 shareholder-level women. Among associates, women comprise almost nearly 57% of our associate ranks. As the Firm expands its services as Florida’s Law Firm for Business, it has renewed its commitment to recruit and promote attorneys from different races, ethnicities, religions, and sexual orientations. This is accomplished through its recruiting efforts, the work of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, its community involvement and support, and attorney mentoring. Through these efforts, Gunster has tackled the challenges of establishing a diverse workplace through active involvement in, and support of, diversity organizations, and by raising awareness of the importance of the Firm’s participation in these organizations to its attorneys. With the Firm’s support, its attorneys are the current and future leaders of several minority organizations and have led significant community efforts to foster and promote diversity. CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORING: The hiring of an attorney is an investment in the Firm’s future. Gunster recognizes that even the most successful recruiting efforts are wasted if the Firm is not dedicated to training and promoting its attorneys to assist in the successful development and growth of their careers. To ensure its attorneys are properly trained and exposed to a vast array of experiences and opportunities, Gunster provides its younger attorneys with opportunities to work with a variety of people. Associates are included in strategic discussions from the onset of their employment and are, as one associate remarked, a “part of the process.” By including young attorneys in all aspects of a client’s representation, they have the opportunity to communicate and work with clients, effectively market themselves in the community, and take the lead on matters with the confidence that they have the knowledge and experience to provide quality representation for the Firm’s clients. Further, Gunster credits its success in its expansion throughout Florida, in part, to attorney retention. Our accomplishments in attorney retention are largely attributable to our internal mentoring and training of our associates. Gunster associates are paired with seasoned and experienced attorneys within their practice group who are committed to overseeing their development and training. This includes individual as well as departmental training sessions targeted to the development of legal skills, education in the substantive area of law, and targeted marketing. Gunster has been honored for this mentoring program. |
