Jones Day’s foundational values as set forth in its Firm Manual include an obligation that all of its lawyers and staff act with integrity in their interactions with each other.  More specifically, Jones Day maintains Equal Employment Opportunity and Anti-Harassment policies which set forth the Firm’s commitment to ensuring that its workplace is free of discrimination or harassment of any kind.  Those policies provide a reporting process for those who feel that they have been subjected to discrimination or harassment as well as the Firm’s commitment to investigate any such reports promptly and take appropriate action.  These policies also contain an explicit provision prohibiting retaliation against any individual who raises complaints or concerns under the policies.

Jones Day does not have a policy regarding non-disclosure agreements as applied to summer associates, associates, and/or other non-partner lawyers.  Jones Day does not require its summer associates, associates, and/or other non-partner lawyers to sign non-disclosure agreements upon their hire or as a condition to their employment with the Firm.

Please describe any well-being initiatives or programs at your firm

Jones Day is committed to the well-being of its legal professionals and provides a wide array of wellness offerings, for example:

  • Jones Day has made a variety of resources available to attorneys and staff throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, including programs to promote physical and mental health, activities to reduce stress and anxiety, and presentations that provide tips for mindfulness and emotional resiliency.  Opportunities to receive care via tele-medicine have been highlighted, as well. These resources come from sources such as the Cleveland Clinic, National Alliance on Mental Health, and the National Institutes of Health, among others.

  • Jones Day has for many years offered a Personal Assistance Program which provides information and assistance to employees and their families on a wide range of subjects.

  • Individual offices offer wellness programs to lawyers and staff based on local needs and interests, including information sessions about nutrition, exercise, and maintaining good health. In many locations lawyers have access to fitness centers, as well as a range of exercise classes and fitness programs.

  • The Firm offers the back-up dependent child and elder care services from Bright Horizons, to support times when our personnel experience a disruption in family care arrangements.

  • Jones Day sponsors numerous teams across the for Lawyers Have a Heart, Velosano, Steptember and other wellness-related community events. 

  • All US offices and many offices outside the US are equipped with Automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Offices may also provide CPR and First Aid training periodically, and flu shots are offered on an annual basis.

Jones Day’s alumni program launched in March 2020 with the distribution of the Firm’s ONE Connection alumni newsletter to approximately 5,000 alumni globally.  The Firm's culture, strength, and success over the past 128 years is predicated on the strong relationships between its lawyers and the clients that Jones Day has had the good fortune to represent. Jones Day's ONE Connection alumni newsletter is designed to inform and engage the Jones Day community, current and past, regarding Firm news, accomplishments, people, and programs--all in an effort to grow, support, and learn from one another.
