Firm Policies

Please describe your firm's policies for summer associates, associates, and/or other non-partner lawyers regarding employment disputes and workplace misconduct

Firm policies (e.g. Conduct Rules, Diversity & Inclusion, EEO/Discrimination, Harassment, Open Door, and Workplace Threats and Violence) encourage employees to report concerns and specify a variety of avenues and contacts for doing so.   In addition to more formal reporting channels, employees may utilize a “virtual suggestion box” to express concerns anonymously or for attribution. Various members of senior leadership receive and review all virtual suggestion box submissions and respond to all identifiable submissions.  Our policies pertaining to employment disputes and workplace misconduct are also reinforced annually in the context of harassment prevention and respectful work environment training.

Please describe specifically your firm's policies surrounding non-disclosure agreements as they apply to summer associates, associates, and/or other non-partner lawyers

Employees do not sign non-disclosure agreements with the exception of those specifically designed to protect confidential client and firm business information.

Please describe specifically your firm's policies surrounding mandatory arbitration agreements as they apply to summer associates, associates, and/or other non-partner lawyers

We do not have mandatory arbitration agreements for summer associates, associates or other non-partner lawyers.

Please describe any well-being initiatives or programs at your firm

Cooley is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of everyone at the Firm. Our wellness program makes focusing on health fun and empowers employees to be an active participant in their overall health and wellness.  Cooley’s partner-led mental health and wellness committee is committed to destigmatizing all issues related mental health, including anxiety, depression, stress, and substance use. They are vocal champions for self-care and wellbeing, and through their leadership, have cultivated a culture of wellness at every level of the firm.  In 2018, Cooley was one of the inaugural signers of the ABA’s Wellbeing Pledge, committing to recognizing and reducing the incidence of substance use and mental health issues in the legal profession. Through the firm’s wellness program, b.well@Cooley, we offer a wide range of programs and services to our people, ranging from on-site biometric screenings, free bi-weekly chair massage and flu shots to health/wellness coaching as well as fitness and nutrition programs. Virgin Pulse, our online wellness platform, is designed to encourage employees to make healthy choices and to reward them for accomplishing their goals. Everyone who signs up receives a $150 credit to be used to purchase a Fitbit of their choice at the Cooley Fitbit store. Employees also receive a yearly $1,000 fitness reimbursement benefit, which can be used on exercise classes and fitness equipment. Cooley believes mental health is as important as physical health and to that end, we recently rolled out a new mental health benefit, Modern Health. Modern Health is a digital-based program providing self-assessments, meditation, health coaching, and mental health therapy, all completely confidential and at no cost to the participant.
