Richards, Layton & Finger is the largest, one of the oldest, and one of the most innovative law firms in Delaware. The firm and our lawyers are known worldwide as authorities in corporate and business law, consistently at the forefront of cutting-edge issues that have shaped Delaware corporate law. Richards Layton lawyers are also key players in major bankruptcy petitions and intellectual property litigation in Delaware's federal courts. Since Delaware is the state of incorporation for many of the nation's most prominent companies, our lawyers work on complex, ground-breaking cases that have global impact. And the more our skills and influence grow, the more we need talented young lawyers to join our team.
Our new associates work on the big cases right from the start. You'll hit the ground running, backed by a staff dedicated to associate training and development. You'll work with leaders in the profession, top-tier lawyers with deep professional expertise in corporate law, business law, bankruptcy, mergers and acquisitions, securitizations, corporate governance and transactions, and litigation. From our single Wilmington office, you'll encounter the hottest global issues facing business today. The firm's work environment is supportive, challenging, and exciting - that's how we ensure our lawyers' professional and personal growth.
Professional development at Richards Layton begins with the summer program, the firm's primary method of hiring new associates. The summer program introduces candidates to the members of the firm, our staff, and how we work. Each summer associate works in a variety of practice areas, paired with a director and an associate who serve as mentors. But it's not all work. There are many social events such as cultural tours, ice skating parties and ball games. We also have a talented softball team - we won the league title in 2009 - that plays in the local lawyers' league during the summer.
The summer program will also introduce you to life in Wilmington, and you'll find that the city's quality of life is high. Not only does it have a vibrant arts, entertainment, and restaurant scene, the city also offers golf courses, tennis facilities, parks, hiking and biking trails, ice skating rinks, and other recreational activities - all minutes from our office. The many beaches in Delaware and New Jersey are within a two-hour drive, and Wilmington's central location provides quick and easy access to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and New York City.
Richards Layton offers world-class corporate and business law practices in a friendly setting. Our salaries are comparable to those found in much larger cities, but Wilmington's cost of living is relatively low. Property taxes are low too, and there's no sales tax in Delaware. As a result, many of our associates buy homes within their first year here, enjoying the tree-lined neighborhoods, the short commutes, and the countless amenities of Wilmington life.
