NARRATIVE
Founded in 1868, Law Weathers has a long history of legal and community service.  For more than 132 years, our attorneys have been leaders in the legal profession, in business and in the community.  Among those who have practiced with our firm are former President Gerald Ford and his presidential legal counsel, Philip W. Buchen, as well as Julius Amberg, who was the second president of the State Bar of Michigan and served as counsel to Secretary of War Henry L. Simson during World War II.
Prompt and personal attention to our clients is our first priority.  Law Weathers provides the talent of a full-service diversified law firm dedicated to providing superior service in a timely manner and at a reasonable cost.
Although our overriding goal is to maintain the highest quality standards, the firm's internal culture is collegial, and we strive to balance work with family time.  We invest in our clients' and our community's future by encouraging our lawyers, legal assistants, and staff to participate in organizations which promote growth and development of the Grand Rapids area.
West Michigan's diversified economic base, strong work ethic, superior work force, and abundant natural resources provide the base for steady growth that has outpaced the rest of the state.  The high quality of life is enhanced by good public, private and higher education facilities, reasonable cost of living, and varied summer and winter recreational activities.  The active cultural community in Grand Rapids features symphony, opera, ballet, Broadway shows, and various arena events.  Grand Rapids also features a wide array of sporting events including, minor league basketball, baseball, and hockey.
The summer associate program is one of the methods used to hire new associates.  The program is designed to provide summer associates with experiences similar to those of a full-time associate.  This approach helps both the summer associate and the firm make a more informed decision about hiring for full-time associate positions.  Summer associates are invited to all summer firm functions.
All attorneys are encouraged to give at least one assignment to each summer associate.  As a result, the associate has the opportunity to experience all practice areas and work with a variety of people.  Summer associates prepare briefs, memoranda, and corporate documents, and participate in client meetings, and attend hearings and depositions.  Work is assigned to summer associates directly by the attorney in charge of the project and the associate is responsible to that attorney for completion of the assignment.  The attorneys who assign projects provide feedback throughout the summer to the Recruiting Committee.  The Recruiting Committee monitors workloads and the type and source of all assignments.  Also, at least one attorney is assigned as a mentor to each summer associate to provide individualized assistance.
We hope that this brief introduction to Law Weathers encourages you to consider speaking to our attorneys on campus or in Grand Rapids.  Once you do, we are confident that you will be enthusiastic about pursuing your practice at Law Weathers.
